Mañana y mañana y mañana

[Poesía ocasional]

Casi he olvidado el sabor del miedo;
el tiempo ha sido.
Mis sentidos
se enfriaban al escuchar el chillido
nocturno o cualquier tragedia me erizaba el pelo.
Estoy lleno de horrores;
son tan familiares a mi pensamiento asesino
que ya no me asustan.

¿Qué fue ese grito?

La reina, mi señor, está muerta.

Debería haber muerto más tarde;
habría sido mejor momento
para esa palabra.
Mañana y mañana y mañana
se arrastran con su pequeño paso día a día
hasta la última sílaba del tiempo escrito,
y todos nuestros ayeres iluminan a los tontos
hacia el polvo y la muerte. ¡Apagate, breve vela!
La vida no es sino una sombra andante,
un pobre actor
que se pavonea y
gasta su hora en el escenario
y luego ya no se lo escucha: es un cuento
contado por un idiota, lleno de sonido y
de furia,
y significa nada.

MACBETH
I have almost forgot the taste of fears;
The time has been, my senses would have cool'd
To hear a night-shriek; and my fell of hair
Would at a dismal treatise rouse and stir
As life were in't: I have supp'd full with horrors;
Direness, familiar to my slaughterous thoughts
Cannot once start me.
Wherefore was that cry?

SEYTON
The queen, my lord, is dead.

MACBETH
She should have died hereafter;
There would have been a time for such a word.
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day
To the last syllable of recorded time,
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
