Ben Jonson / Para Celia

Brinda por mí sólo con los ojos,
Y yo responderé con los míos;
O deja un beso en la copa
Y no buscaré en ella el vino.
La sed que sube desde el alma
Pide un trago divino,
Pero aunque bebiese yo
El néctar de Júpiter
No lo cambiaría por el tuyo.

Te envié una corona de rosas,
No solo para honrarte
Sino con la esperanza
De que a tu lado
No podrían marchitarse.
Tú solo respiraste
Sobre ellas y me las devolviste.
Desde entonces, crecen y huelen ¡te lo juro!
No por ellas mismas sino por ti.

IX - Song - To Celia

Drink to me only with thine eyes,
         And I will pledge with mine;
Or leave a kiss but in the cup,
         And I’ll not look for wine.
The thirst that from the soul doth rise
         Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove’s nectar sup,
         I would not change for thine.

I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
         Not so much honouring thee
As giving it a hope, that there
         It could not withered be.
But thou thereon didst only breathe,
         And sent’st it back to me;
Since when it grows, and smells, I swear,
         Not of itself, but thee.
