Rita Ann Higgins / La visionaria

La visionaria

La mujer en la tienda de caramelos
se está convirtiendo en su madre.
Tan sólo la semana pasada
era joven
cuando charlar de bodas
y empapelados y heladeras nuevas
y un pequeño departamento en la ciudad era la charla toda.

Luego sólo Dios sabe por qué
él tomó un micro que nunca se detuvo
y ella fue abandonada
con la vergüenza del empapelado
de no tener ningún fruto en su vientre
a quien pudiera comprarle
zoquetes blancos.

El cansancio de su madre
creció en ella
su manera de ser
su gracias a Dios.

Cuando hizo cuentas
usó las gafas de su madre.
Bromeó al respecto
"cuál es la diferencia
acaso no tenemos yo y mamá
la misma vista de todas formas
acaso las dos no vemos bien de lejos"

The Visionary

The woman in the sweet shop
is turning into the mother.
Only the other week
she was young
when talk of weddings
and wallpaper and new fridges
an a small flat in the town was all talk.

Then for God knows why
he took a bus thar never stopped
and she was left
with the wallpaper shame
of not having any fruit in her womb
that she might buy
white socks for.

Her mother's tiredness
grew into her
her mannerims
her thanks be to Gods.

When she totted up the numbers
She used her mother's glasses.
Sje koked abput it
"sure what differ does it make
haven't me and mammy
the same vision anyway
aren't we both far sighted"
