George Oppen / "De ser muchos"

1

Hay cosas entre
Las que vivimos 'y verlas
es conocerlas'.

Ocurrencia, una parte
De una serie infinita,

Las tristes maravillas;

George Oppen (New Roschelle, Estados Unidos, 1908-Sunnyvale, Estados Unidos, 1984), "De Of Being Numerous / De ser muchos" (1968), George Oppen: poesía, ensayo y entrevistas,  selección y traducción de Kurt Folch, Ediciones Universidad Diego Portales, Santiago de Chile, 2012

There are things
We live among 'and to see them
Is to know ourselves'.

Ocurrence, a part
Of an infinite series,

The sad marvels;

Of this was told
A tale of our wickedness.
It is not a wickedness.

'You remember that old town we went to, and we sat in the
ruined window, and we tried to imagine that we belonged to
those - It is dead and it is not dead, and you cannot
imagine either its life and its death; the earth speaks and the
salamander speaks, the Spring comes and only obscures it -'
