Jude Nutter / Cuervos

Cuervos

Vigilantes.
Eso es todo. A veces este mundo

es apenas un paraíso.

Crows
I saw that strange blend of softness /and brittle energy in the shattered wing, //and the blue that floated beneath the surface /of its feathers —sometimes the flesh is a mirror //but it’s never this world that’s reflected. /There was nothing on the beach of interest //except this body: As I moved away /they came down, out of the trees —after the first, //an avalanche—to stand fussing /in a circle around their dead companion. //They were there until the tide came in, /lifted that broken body up on its hem, turned, //floated it out —an untidy blackness riding /into view, then vanishing, with each swell. //All they did was wait there. Keeping vigil. /That’s all. There are times when this world //is just enough like paradise.
