Geoffrey Hill / Los fragmentos de Asís

Los fragmentos de Asís
Para G. Wilson Knight

1

León y leona, apacibles
E inflamables bestias,
En su preciso peligro mantuvieron
Distancia y reposo –
Y allí la serpiente
Hizo brillar su cabeza
Inocentemente.

2

Pues el halcón tuvo su persecución,
Pues la muerte abrió sus ojos
De niño. Pues los ángeles superaron
A Adán: Él fue amancillado
Por bálsamo. Creador, y criatura
Hecha de tierra no natural;
Aulló al cuervo: Encuéntrame;
Al lobo: Come, mi hermano;
Y al fuego: Estoy limpio.

The Assisi Fragments
To G. Wilson Knight
1
Lion and lioness, the mild/Inflammable beasts,/ At their precise peril kept/Distance and repose –/And there the serpent/Innocently shone its head.
2
So the hawk had it’s pursuit. So Death/Opened its childish eyes. So the angels/Overcame Adam: he was defiled/By Balm. Creator, and creature made/Of unnatural earth, he howled/To the raven find me; to the wolf/Eat, my brother; and to the fire I am clean.

  1. Me gusta que este poema sea metáfora de otra cosa. Su musicalidad interrumpida me deja sin certezas. Tiene una precisión estética que aporta belleza.

    Un saludo, Jorge. Te leo en tu columna de Ñ.
